Make your hat using traditional millinery techniques taught by one of Australia's leading milliners. Each evening there will be a set, including use of the wooden millinery blocks and a variety of trimming techniques (feathers, ribbon, straw and their application to the hat). By the end of the course you will have completed a hat of your own design to take home and impress your friends!

Challenge yourself to fly beyond the fascinator, progress beyond the pillbox, advance past the beret. Learn the fundamentals of millinery by creating a hat with a crown and a brim. From a casual fedora to a fashions-on-the-field stunner, these foundational facts will carry through every hat you construct. Master the skills of blocking, assembly and finishing to a high standard and bring home, not only a beautiful hat, but a wealth of knowledge!

Don't be limited by having to use a blocked shape for your hat. Create a small hat or headpiece from wire! In this 2-day course you will learn how to fashion a shape from millinery wire, cover your frame and explore appropriate trims for your design. Make a "toy" topper or a heavenly headpiece – let your imagination run wild!

If you like the delicate and textured look of a hat made from lace, Georgina Conheady will show you how to achieve this over a weekend, using the wooden millinery hat blocks to make a small hat from sinamay and Guipure lace. You will be learning traditional millinery techniques while making an exquisite little something to wear to that special occasion!

Vintage Style Textured Hat
Lynnette Lim's hats are known for their varied textures and beautiful finish. She will share some of her secrets with you in this weekend workshop. Cover a blocked sinamay base with leaves, petals, ribbon or braid to create a wonderfully vintage style small hat. You will learn how to construct a simple sinamay base from start to finish and also fashion your charming trim from fabric. Lynn will show you ways to artistically arrange your components to emphasise this feature.

These small classes are open to beginner and intermediate students, catering to different levels of experience. Students new to millinery will make a hat from start to finish, moulding the materials over the traditional wooden hat blocks using a variety of techniques.

Make a classic fedora from fabulous felt or spectacular straw. Learn how to block, shape and produce a first-class finish for your hat using traditional millinery techniques. Customise your creation with a timeless ribbon trim or a more contemporary concoction.

Make 2 hats over 4 days. One will be a sculpted headpiece where Louise Macdonald will show you how to sculpt contemporary sinamay straw using traditional and new millinery techniques to make your own outstanding headpiece! For the other hat, milliner Georgina Conheady will show you the steps to create a beautiful hat for the races, or more casual wear if you prefer, from parisisal straw. At the of the 4 days you will have had 2 different experts showing you their special tips and tricks for you to create 2 different hats!

Make a hat of your own design with milliner Louise Macdonald on this 3-day course. You can make a hat from felt or straw using traditional millinery techniques. You will start with the basic material and make your own special shape using the wooden hat blocks, followed by reinforcement and trimming techniques. This course is open to beginner and intermediate students.
